Description:

Classical World, Magna Graecia, southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A beautiful kylix, a drinking cup, with two raised handles extending from near the rim and a pronounced foot. The black background has attained some attractive iridescence. A laurel leaf motif wraps the interior and exterior just below the rim; in the center of the interior is a brilliant sunburst. All motifs are delineated in a pale orange/pink tone. Known as Xenon ware, this is a unique Apulian painting style. Size: 8.5" W x 2.1" H (21.6 cm x 5.3 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired on one side from a few larger pieces. These repairs are well done, unobtrusive, and do not involve any overpaint or restoration. Nice deposits on surface and nice iridescence. Motifs are well preserved with a few tiny chips and nicks commensurate with age.
