Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A massive megalodon tooth with a glossy black surface and a slightly curved profile. The root is a matte black with a hollow cavity that has collected shell fragments when this tooth rested at the bottom of the ocean. The enamel has been polished to a lustrous sheen with silvery and beige striations along the tip and edges. Megalodons were among the largest predators the ocean ever saw, but their teeth are the only parts that have survived since their cartilage bodies could not fossilize. Medieval people believed that these strange teeth were moon rocks or dragon's tongues. Size: 5.43" L x 3.87" W (13.8 cm x 9.8 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on included custom stand.
