Central Asia, India / Pakistan, Gandharan Empire, ca 2nd to 5th century CE. A lovely stucco'd pottery head of a female. Long, thin face colored in original natural pink pigmentation, her eyes downcast, thin lips over a rounded jaw line. She wears her hair mostly pulled back with 4 rivulets flowing down to her forehead - hair colored a deep black. This lovely sculpture shows strong Buddhist attributes. Size: 14" H (35.6 cm)

Alexander the Great traveled through Gandhara in the 4th century BCE. Many of his soldiers settled down in this region and their Greek influence can clearly be seen in the art of the region.
