Central Asia, Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan, Gandharan Empire, ca. 1st century CE. A lovely depiction of the Buddha, hand-carved from grey schist. He wears flowing robes that are beautifully carved. His serene face features downturned eyes, a slender nose, and elongated ear lobes, with a topknot or ushnisha atop his wavy coiffure, all in front of a large, round halo with a petaled interior. A beautiful devotional image! Size: 2.95" W x 4.35" H (7.5 cm x 11 cm); 6" H (15.2 cm) on included custom stand.
