Description:

Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 11th century CE. A lovely bronze brooch of a crossbow-form style with a twisted wire cylinder spring on top, a pair of fluted, knob-form finials, a crescent cross beam decorated with dozens of incised striations, and a curving main body with similar striations as well as a shallow midrib. Brooches of this size were worn by wealthier Norsemen and were seen as signs of prestige and status. Custom display frame included. Size (fibula): 5.625" W x 6" H (14.3 cm x 15.2 cm); size (frame): 8.1" W x 10" H (20.6 cm x 25.4 cm).
