Description:

Valentine Morse (American, 1893-1971), oil on board, ca. 1925. Signed at the lower left. A charming plein-air painting by this early 20th c. female American artist, depicting adobe houses in the Four Corners area, with cacti and desert brush dotting the arid land and mountains in the distance. Born in Oregon in 1893, Valentine Morse relocated to New Mexico to recover from an illness. The beauty of the desert inspired a lifetime of painting Southwestern landscapes. Morse preferred small format oil paintings on board, because she could focus on the details of the flowering plants and adobe buildings. This is a lovely example of her work, set in an attractive gold-hued frame. Size: 11.25" W x 9.3" H (28.6 cm x 23.6 cm) framed
