Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A sizable textile fragment composed of tightly woven natural cotton fibers and painted in bright hues of citrine, cream, coffee, and wheat. Several rectangular panels are separated with flowing serpentine lines - of smooth and serrated forms - and are filled with wondrously abstract creatures. A register of minimalist avian figures courses across the left half of the textile, with three feline-form fishermen shown across the middle, and a trio of quadruped cats in the upper right corner. Mounted on a museum-quality display fabric inside a wooden frame. Size (textile): 31.75" L x 20" W (80.6 cm x 50.8 cm); (frame): 36" L x 24" W (91.4 cm x 61 cm)
