Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manteno culture, ca. 1000 CE. A gorgeous necklace strung with modern red thread featuring four hanging strands of pottery spindle whorl beads. Each bead is spherical with a slight carination and has a pierced suspension hole, and the exterior surfaces exhibit abstract avian motifs brought forth with white pigment. Strung in modern times and capped with an additional spindle whorl fastener, this is a stylish example of ancient art meets modern fashion! Size (necklace): 20.875" L (53 cm); (largest bead): 0.4" W x 0.5" H (1 cm x 1.3 cm)

  • Condition: Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Pottery spindle whorl beads are ancient, and red thread is modern. Minor nicks to some pottery beads, with fading and chipping to areas of white pigmentation, otherwise intact and very good. Nice avian details remaining.
