Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rican, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A fascinating handbuilt terracotta whistle in the form of a monkey-like figure with anthropomorphic details, including a round, brimmed cap, a bowl held in one hand, and a pack on his back. The body of the monkey is squat, with short limbs, his legs serving as two of the three legs of the vessel (a paddle-like tail serving as the third). His facial features - full pouty lips, a broad nose with large nostrils, and large eyes with thick brows - are composed of applied filets of clay that form. Creates bright, loud tones! Size: 4" W x 5.35" H (10.2 cm x 13.6 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
