Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A group of four bullae, two from lead, and two from glass. A bulla was a small amulet, made from glass, lead, or sometimes tin, and then covered with gold foil and given a gold loop for suspension, made to be worn by male children around the neck as a ward against evil spirits. Size of largest: 0.65" W (1.7 cm)

  • Condition: The smaller of the lead ones has a slight loss to one side. Both lead bullae have whitish metal patina on surface. Both glass bullae also have patina, with slight silvery iridescence.
