Louis Benoit van Houtte (Belgian, 1810-1876). Five color lithographs and four pages of informational text from "Flores de Serres et des Jardins de L'Europe" (Ghent, 1845-1888). A lovely collection of five lithographs and four pages of text from Louis van Houtte's "Flores de Serres et des Jardins de L'Europe," which was published by Horto van Houtteano (Portuguese for "van Houtte's garden"), Houtte's own printing press. The images include: "Blandfordia Flammea," "Aphelandra Porteana," "Rehmannia Glutinosa," "Thyrsacanthus Barlerioides," and "Dircaea Lobulata." Louis Benoît van Houtte was a Belgian horticulturist who was with the Jardin Botanique de Brussels between 1836 and 1838 and is best known for the journal Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l'Europe, produced with Charles Lemaire and M. Scheidweiler, an extensive work boasting more than 2,000 coloured plates in 23 volumes. Size (all about the same): 10" L x 6.5" W (25.4 cm x 16.5 cm)
