Western Europe, probably England or France, ca. 16th to 17th century CE. A stunning copper ring adorned with gold gilding displaying a hand-carved sardonyx cameo in the center. Atop the clear sardonyx base is a vibrant, vermilion-hued bust of a right-facing male figure, his body with delineated musculature and covered with a cloak or tunic, perhaps depicting Greek Herakles (Roman Hercules) or even Alexander the Great.   • Condition: Wearable as shown. Minor casting flaw on center of shank, and very small chips around [periphery of sardonyx, otherwise intact and excellent. Great luster on ring setting, and wonderful preservation to finer details on bust.
