Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Sassanian (Sasanian/Sasanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. A charming hollow-cast bronze horse figurine standing atop attenuated legs. The hollow cavity within the body held incense which was able to easily escape via two large lateral holes. A small rim atop the back is flanked by a pair of suspension rings. The horse presents with a sweeping tail and a raised head boasting almond eyes, a rounded snout, perky ears, and a bushy mane. Covered in smooth green patina, this is a wonderful example from the ancient Sassanians! Size: 4.1" L x 1.5" W x 3.625" H (10.4 cm x 3.8 cm x 9.2 cm).
