Description:

Pre-Columbian, Maya, Classic period, ca. 250 to 900 CE. This is a beautiful statuette of a figure in a pale, mint green jade. The figure has classically Mayan features, including the large nose and mouth style. Green stones were some of the most desirable items in ancient Mesoamerica. This figure holds his hands in front of his waist and there is an indentation there that probably had an inset, perhaps one made of shell or some other complementary material. The ears are pierced - now used for suspension, but maybe once holding some kind of jewelry. Size: 0.8" W x 1.9" H (2 cm x 4.8 cm)
