Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A beautiful pottery bowl with a round but stable base, tall walls with a flared rim, and a deep basin. The base is incised with a circle bearing dozens of fretted petals, and the walls present further incised pseudo-glyphs depicting curved crescents, stippling, and three different forms of abstract avian heads. Vibrant red cinnabar is inlaid within every incised groove and highlights not only the intricate glyph details but the expertise necessary to achieve such elegant stylization. Size: 7.75" W x 3.375" H (19.7 cm x 8.6 cm)
