Description:

Pre-Columbian, La Tolita culture, Ecuador, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. This is a sensitively-modelled clay figure, seated with legs crossed and with fine naturalistic facial features; its hands rest atop its knees. It has traces of red and yellow original pigment. The head has a variety of decorations and the skull is elongated, maybe representing the skull elongation that was known to have been practiced from birth by people in this region. Size: 2" L x 3" W x 4.75" H (5.1 cm x 7.6 cm x 12.1 cm).
