Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A cast-copper axe head with a thick rectangular body and a crescent-shaped blade with projecting lateral points. Axe heads like this example were perhaps created for ceremonial or funerary purposes as it does not exhibit a utilitarian form. A lovely example covered with mottled green, brown, and beige patina with scattered areas of pale turquoise-hued patina as well. Size: 3.5" L x 3.875" W (8.9 cm x 9.8 cm); 4.6" H (11.7 cm) on included custom stand.
