Description:

Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast region of Mexico, northern Veracruz region, Huastec, ca. 900 to 1450 CE. A hand-built pottery figure seated with crossed legs and a dramatic forward lean. The sinuous arms are bent with hands placed atop the knees, the figure's head projecting out as if telling an engaging tale of heroes and beasts. Impressed almond-shaped eyes, a bulbous nose, thin lips, and smooth cheeks comprise the expressive visage, with a segmented band wrapped around the forehead, and a tall headdress with a fluted top panel. The cream-slipped figure is accentuated with orange-red pigment on the headdress. Size: 2.125" L x 2" W x 3.4" H (5.4 cm x 5.1 cm x 8.6 cm).
