Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco culture, ca. 800 to 500 BCE. A fine gathering of three hand-modeled pottery figurines known as 'pretty ladies,' each standing atop delineated legs with wide hips and ample thighs. The figures have slender waist lines, broad shoulders with attenuated arms, and perky breasts. Their diamond-shaped heads boast impressed ovoid eyes, crested noses, hoop-form earrings, and multi-lobed headdresses. Traces of faded red-orange pigment are visible across the figures and suggest that each was at one time decorated with bright pigmentation. Size: 1" W x 2.4" H (2.5 cm x 6.1 cm); 3.3" H (8.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
