Description:

Pre-Columbian, Huari/Wari culture, Peru, 400 to 600 CE. This is a polychrome pottery doll with a strong painted surface. It has a striped belt, a headband, and holds its hands to its stomach. The face is bright and startling, with large, staring eyes. There are mineral deposits on the surface. The iconography of the headband may indicate where this figure is from -- for example, archaeologists know that chevron headbands are associated with Pachacamac. The style of this figure is similar to those from Pikillacta, with its enlarged face (relative to body size) that allowed the maker to show particular features that may be from a specific individual. Size: 2.7" W x 6.5" H (6.9 cm x 16.5 cm)

Provenance: Ex-R. Gill, Florida
