Description:

West Mexico, ca 200 BCE - 200 CE. This piece exemplifies the subtle, elegant forms of pottery the ancient Colima artisans were capable of. The body of the vessel curves up to a protruding shoulder, with round nodules depicted around the body of the piece, perhaps indicative of a squash or cactus form. A highly burnished original surface in deep red pigment has been preserved for millennia by mineral and sediment deposits which have been left intact to preserve the integrity and character of the piece. ~7" wide x ~4-1/2" wide. Provenance: Former North Carolina, USA collection. All items in this auction are legal to buy/sell under U.S. statute covering cultural patrimony per United States Code 2600, CHAPTER 14 -- CONVENTION ON CULTURAL PROPERTY, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

  • Condition: Intact overall with only minor restoration of a small rim chip. Otherwise, expected weathering, wear and abrasions overall, with heavy mineral deposits inside and out.
