Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel features a rounded, stable base, a sharply carinated shoulder, and a flared rim. The surface is adorned with a contrasting red and beige slip. Colima pottery, associated with the shaft tomb culture of West Mexico, was often created for ritual or funerary use and placed within deep, vertical shaft tombs alongside the deceased. Size: 7" Diameter x 7" H (17.8 cm x 17.8 cm).
