Central India, Khassia (also Khalsia) Hills region, Naga peoples, ca. 19th century CE. A rare example of a dao, a type of two-handed sword with a pair of petite quillons. The slender hexagonal handle tapers down to an openwork, drop-form pommel, and a pair of form-fitting brass sheets are wrapped above the lower guard and just above the pommel. The lengthy blade has a slight crescent-shaped profile with sharpened edges on each side, a petite bulge near the midsection of one edge, and a rounded tip. Size: 45.8" L x 4.25" W (116.3 cm x 10.8 cm).
