Central Asia, northern India/Pakistan, Indo-Persian culture, ca. 19th century CE. A fabulous scimitar with a curved blade made of forged steel and a contoured steel handle. The blade has a characteristic pronounced arch with a sharpened edge along the exterior curve and a stamped round maker's mark just below the guard. The iron handle has a pair of short quillions with swollen terminals which comprise the cross guard, a knuckle bow, and a pommel terminating in a flower-like head. Known as a "shamshir" by the Persians and a "tulwar/talwar" in India, this is a beautiful example of elegant and functional weaponry! Size: 3.25" W x 35.25" H (8.3 cm x 89.5 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990
