Description:

Italy, Faliscan, ca. 4th century BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery oinochoe (wine or fluid pitcher) of refined form with a "beaked" spout, elegantly long neck, rounded shoulder, rotund body that gradually narrows to a circular base, and applied strap handle with two upturned volutes flanking the spout. The sienna hued exterior is decorated with black-painted vegetal motifs and horizontal bands. The interior is covered in a black glaze that extends to the volutes and outer side of the handle. Made by the Falisci people who lived north of the Tiber River, this piece is a wonderful combination of Roman and Etruscan elements! Size: 3.3" W x 5.1" H (8.4 cm x 13 cm)
