Description:

Central/Western Europe, late European Bronze Age, ca. 1200 to 600 BCE. A cast-bronze double axe head of a hefty form with a central socketing hole. The larger blade head is vertically oriented and features a 'bearded' profile with a tapered lower point, and the other blade head has a narrow neck that flares out to create the horizontal edge with gently protruding tips. Lustrous layers of red-brown and dark-green patina have formed across the weapon and create an enticing presentation. Size: 9.7" L x 3.125" W (24.6 cm x 7.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
