Description:

Northern Italy, Etruria, ca. 3rd century BCE. A fine, mold-made terracotta votive depicting the head of an elegant female. Her beautiful visage is comprised of large almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, full cheeks flaking puffy lips and a rounded chin, petite ears, and a slender neck, all framed by wavy tresses of hair beneath a corona. Votive heads like this example were placed in temples as forms of requests or offerings to thank the gods. Sculptors used molds and stamps to create images of both women and men. An uncomplicated example of quality Etruscan craftsmanship! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 5.5" W x 8.75" H (14 cm x 22.2 cm); 10.75" H (27.3 cm) on included custom stand.
