Description:

Southeast Asia, Burma (present day Myanmar), ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. Skillfully cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process a very large bronze devotee figure sitting in double lotus upon a tiered lotus pedestal and holding a separately cast offering bowl (it is removeable) in his hands as he gazes tranquilly to the distance. The figure's visage is an exemplar of serenity with downcast almond-shaped eyes framed by gracefully arched brows, a naturalistic nose, and closed lips. His robes cascade elegantly over his body, softly folding like pools of rippling water over the tiered lotus pedestal. An impressive piece of spiritual art not only for its size but also for the sculptor's artistry and technique as well as the wonderful condition of the bronze. Size: 17" W x 27" H (43.2 cm x 68.6 cm)
