Egypt, Late Dynastic to Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 664 BCE to 2nd century CE. A charming pendant of a petite form depicting a fly, hand-carved from rich vermilion-hued jasper. The insect has a tapered triangular body, a pair of tab-shaped wings, and a lobed head with a suspension drilled lengthwise through the mouth and abdomen. The pendant is displayed hanging from a twisted loop on a 12K gold wire, and a loop and lobster clasp are attached to the terminals. An attractive example of Egyptian zoomorphic artistry!
