Description:

Egypt, New Kingdom period, 18th Dynasty, Amarna period, reign of Amenhotep IV (Akhenaton), ca. 1360 to 1336 BCE. A vibrant terracotta pottery fragment painted with a register of lotus leaves in hues of sky blue with russet red berries above. The leaves and register are outlined in fine-line black. This fragment would have been part of a sizeable, wheel-thrown vessel similar to those depicted in paintings from the Amarna-period tomb-chapel of Nebamun presenting the wealthy official and his wife in the marshes along the banks of the Nile with naturalistic fauna and flora. Size: 3.125" W x 2.125" H (7.9 cm x 5.4 cm); 3.25" H (8.3 cm) on included custom stand.
