Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador / Colombia, ca. 5th to 15th century CE. A pair of pottery ocarina whistles in the form of a shell with pierced holes for suspension and wearing on a necklace or belt. One is a deep umber red hue and the other is slipped in beige and overpainted with umber stripes. The small tone hole is centered on the upper coil and a large vent opening forms the shell's chamber opening as well. To play these instruments may have required a specific mouth position and it is unknown if either of these still function. Size: 4.5" L x 3" W (11.4 cm x 7.6 cm)
