Description:

Roman, Eastern Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A gorgeous unguentarium of an hourglass form, free-blown from semi-translucent, blue-green glass. The thick base has a discoid foot and a rough pontil scar, a corseted body, a flared rim with an in-folded lip, and a pair of applied trail handles with folded thumb rests. The soft aqua color of the vessel is nicely complemented by scattered areas of faint silvery iridescence. Size: 2.5" W x 4.3" H (6.4 cm x 10.9 cm).
