Description:

Eastern Roman Empire, ca. 4th to 6th century CE. A charming cast bronze figure of a woman, depicted with a great deal of detail on her face, hair, and clothing. She wears a long himation with a thin sash. One hand holds the end of the cloth near her thigh, while the other is lost but may have been raised and/or holding something. Her hair falls around her face and is partially held back by a large diadem. Her clothing is decorated with incised and stippled marks, giving it a rich appearance. Her face is more lifelike than many similar statues, with a knowing gaze that seems to catch the viewer's eye. Likely a votive figure, made to be placed into a tomb. Size: 1.45" W x 4" H (3.7 cm x 10.2 cm); 4.6" H (11.7 cm) on included custom stand.
