Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 BCE - 100 CE. Archaeological studies have revealed that Moche cities were governed by warrior-priest rulers. We know from examples of Moche pottery that these rulers oftentimes wore elaborate crowns; however, they are more often depicted in a crescent shape. This gold gilded crown stands apart not only for its unusual form but also for its elaborate embellishments. Note the impressive number of gold gilded danglers as well as the poignant, mask of a Lord King with inlaid shell eyes in the center. The danglers make sounds like a bell... imagine a ruler walking with such a crown every step of his would have been musical and inform his people that he's approaching! Includes custom, museum-quality stand. 9"W x 7-1/2"D x 8"H
