Description:

Europe, Medieval period, ca. 9th to 15th century CE. A noble 86% silver ring of a flat, circular form featuring an intriguing incised script along its outer rim. The ring's center face contains pyramidal and pentagram decorations. In the middle ages, the pentagram is said to have been a Christian symbol for the five senses, or of the five wounds of Christ. Furthermore, feudalism - the prevalent social organization of European nations at the time - resembled the structure of a pyramid, with the lowest peasants at its base and the lines of authority flowing up to the peak of the structure constituting the king. This ring was perhaps used in a utilitarian fashion by its owner as stamp seal. A superb example of the times, with a story waiting to be uncovered! Ring size: 1" W x 0.75" H (2.5 cm x 1.9 cm); face size: 0.78" Diameter (2 cm); quality of silver: 85.66%; total weight: 12.2 grams; US ring size: 7.5.
