East Asia, China, ca. 19th century to early 20th century CE. A bird cage with the original floor stand carved from wood featuring a lotus petal base and fu dog final with a brass hook. The cage floor and bars are made from lacquered bamboo with a hook that attaches to a nickel-brass panel decorated with butterflies. Inside are porcelain food and water dishes, an elephant ivory perch with a textured grip applied to the surface, and other pieces on the bars for feeding / bird enrichment. This is a very elegant piece whether it contains a bird or stands empty! Size of stand: 13" Diameter x 67.25" H (33 cm x 170.8 cm); cage: 11" Diameter x 8" H (27.9 cm x 20.3 cm)

  • Condition: Stable pressure fissure and chips to the lotus petals on the stand. Wooden shaft is reattached to the base with faint break line and adhesive, but stand is very sturdy. Chipping to lacquered pigment on the cage base, but otherwise intact and great antique condition!
