Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Native American, Southwestern and Northwestern United States, Pima or Papago, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-woven basketry bowl of elegant form exhibiting a finely braided rim as well as 5 dark-brown linear bands that spiral down towards the dark basin. The early Pima baskets were primarily utilitarian - used to carry water, firewood, prepare food and store items. These baskets are handmade, woven with native plants including yucca, beargrass, and Devils Claw. The hues are natural as Native American weavers appreciated the natural colors of desert plants.
