Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest (USA and Canada), Salish tribe, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A gorgeous zoomorphic adze handle, hand-carved from finely-grained hard wood. The attachment point is tapered and triangular in form, with a lengthy ovoid groove on one side and a pair of incised threading bands on the other. A characteristic raven head serves as the finial - with large almond-shaped eyes and a bulbous beak - with the bird's winged body as the handle. Covered in a lustrous caramel-hued patina, this is a wonderful example of Northwest Coast wood-carving! Custom museum-quality stand included. Size: 8.625" L (21.9 cm); 6.75" H (17.1 cm) on included custom stand.
