Description:

Native American, Haida Gwaii (formerly Queen Charlotte Islands), British Columbia, Canada, ca. mid 20th century CE. A gorgeous hide bag made from a folded-over sheet of hide. A thin hide strap provides an easy way to carry it. The surface is painted on both sides with pretty motifs showing bears and a profusion of other zoomorphic faces, with red and black details on a bright white background. A narrow flap of red hide folds over the top, with two small and one large abalone shell buttons. A big burst of deliberately felted red material holds the largest button in place. From the bottom, twelve deer hooves hang from long, thin hide ties. Size: 14" W x 13" H (35.6 cm x 33 cm); 14.25" H (36.2 cm) on included custom stand.
