Native American, Northwest Coast, Haida, ca. early 20th century. A hand-carved argillite bat effigy whistle, skillfully incised with wonderful detailing on the wings, tail, body, and visage. There are multiple sound holes perforting the whistle. To the Haida, the bat symbolizes longevity, rebirth, and fruitful journeys. Size: 2.1" W x 1.8" H (5.3 cm x 4.6 cm)
