Latin America, Mexico, Oaxaca, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A lifesize carved and painted carving of a head atop a thick cylindrical pole with bold features - mustache, large sideburns, staring eyes, and a protruding chin. The style is the same as the Tejoron masks, traditional Oaxacan masks made specifically for male dancers. This tradition stems from the Guelaguetza, an annual celebration of indigenous culture in the city of Oaxaca. Size: 7.9" L x 11.35" W x 20.75" H (20.1 cm x 28.8 cm x 52.7 cm)

  • Condition: The cylindrical pole appears to have broken off something larger, with the back unpainted. There are two small areas of indentation on its front that may have had some other decoration. The head is in nice condition as is the pigment overall.
