Description:

East Asia, Japan, early 20th century CE. A pair of bamboo and rope snowshoes each comprised of a single piece of bamboo bent into a circular shape. The overlapping ends are bound together by woven fiber rope. Rope crosses horizontally and vertically through the center of the circle, and the ropes interlace through each other to ensure stability, as well as to form the area where the foot stands. Bamboo is the ideal material, for its lightweight and pliable properties enable the wearer walk on powdery snow drifts. Size: 18.25" W x 20.5" H (46.4 cm x 52.1 cm)
