Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Sumatra, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A beautiful example of a forged-iron kris (keris), a ceremonial personal sword with a handle and scabbard carved from sumptuous caramel-hued wood. The jawa-demam-style handle rests above a petite brass separation ring and depicts an abstract figure with bent arms as well as a rounded head with a prominent nose. The polished scabbard is composed of a rectangular guard protector and an ovoid blade housing. Size: 6" W x 18" H (15.2 cm x 45.7 cm); size (blade): 14.5" L (36.8 cm).
