Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful example of a kris (also keris). The carved wooden handle exhibits lustrous black hues as well as a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes along the interior curve, and a silvered brass spacer disc rests between the blade shoulder and handle base. The forged-iron blade features a distinctly straight profile with sharpened edges, a pointed tip, a separately forged hand guard, and ribbons of lighter material within the iron matrix. The carved wooden sheath has a broad guard protector above the blade housing, and a removable brass sheath jacket is lightly incised with intricate floral motifs. Size (w/ sheath): 6" W x 18.625" H (15.2 cm x 47.3 cm); (blade): 14.9" L (37.8 cm)
