Description:

Southeast Asia, western Philippines, Palawan Island, Tagbanua tribe, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved cylindrical bamboo quiver known as a karaban used for transporting a blowgun, darts, and handle. The narrow container has a gently tapered rim meant to mitigate the darts from spilling out and reflective brown and tan hues across the exterior. A braided rattan fiber strap wraps around the midsection and secures the bottom of the carved wooden handle which bears the likeness of a boar, a favorite hunting target of Tagnabua huntsmen. Size (quiver): 2.75" W x 12.6" H (7 cm x 32 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA; ex-Silahis Art & Artifacts, Inc., Manila, Philippines
