Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fine example of a kris (also keris). The wooden handle bears a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes along the interior curve, and the brass spacer disc contains several faceted glass inlays. The forged-steel blade features a straight profile with a slight central bulge along the sharpened edges, a protruding hand guard on top, and integral ribbons of lighter material. The wooden sheath consists of a bulbous guard protector and a wooden blade housing, and a brass sheath jacket has intricated foliate engravings on one side.
