Description:

West Africa, Cameroon, Grassfields area, ca. early 20th century CE. A large and elaborately-detailed carved wood drinking horn with a lovely dark-brown pigmented surface. A flared, extended lip projects from the top of the vessel opening, allowing the user to easily consume beverages such as palm wine. The exterior is densely-adorned with depictions of several animals including wildebeest, lizards, lioness faces, and twin-headed serpents on the top portion; the bottom displays overlapping scale-shaped motifs. The tip of the "horn" is perforated laterally for suspension when not in use, making this vessel both stylish and utilitarian tool! Size: 12" L x 6" H (30.5 cm x 15.2 cm); 8.75" H (22.2 cm) on included custom stand.
