Description:

**Originally Listed At $200**

Western Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A beautiful divination vessel (agere ifa), hand-carved from a hard wood, used to store the sixteen sacred palm nuts (ikin) traditionally used as a special element in the Yoruba divination ritual. Priests have traditionally used such vessels to communicate with Orunmila, the god of fate, in hopes of attaining insights to an individual's destiny. This agere ifa is supported by a single, large rooster, and the bowl itself shows a lovely rim incised with a triangular pattern adorned in red and black hues. This particular piece is expertly-carved and quite special, particularly if you are a bird lover! Size: 6.75" H (17.1 cm).
