Description:

Central Africa, Cameroon, Grasslands region, Widekum people, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A large, hand-carved wooden mask meant to be worn over the face instead of atop one's head. The visage is comprised of almond shaped eyes, ovoid ears, a prominent, triangular nose, an open mouth with bared jagged teeth, and a high-curved brow line, with two sets of stylized scarification squares on the cheeks. An adorable quadruped animal stands atop the mask, its head defined by perky ears and a rounded face, with dozens of impressed spots displayed across its body. Colored in a dark-brown pigment, this is a fabulous mask replete with character and charm! Size: 8.5" W x 16.5" H (21.6 cm x 41.9 cm).
