Western Africa, Mali, Dogon peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden abstract anthropomorphic male form, the stylized standing figure with bulbous hips, and slender arms bent and held to waist. The bullet-shaped head boasts intriguing facial features including almond-shaped eyes, a bar-shaped nose, full lips, horizontal ovoid ears, and a domed brow. Standing upon an integral circular platform, this is a wonderful example from the Dogon! Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 11.625" H (29.5 cm); 12.75" H (32.4 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Small area of repair to front of abdomen, and areas of loss to base. Age-commensurate surface wear, small chips and losses to base, body, arms, and head, with several stable hairline pressure fissures, and fading to carved facial features, otherwise very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
